What grad students say

You know how there used to be that program (and saying) "Kids say the darndest things"?  Well, that can be changed to grad students or even just people.  Anyway, I decided to start writing down some of the funny things that grad students at J's work say.

I will give a little background, as you already know J's doing a Post Doc here at a University in NC.  While he's in a pretty big department and all, they don't have separate offices for grad students, post docs and research staff.  So, that means that they just have all those people (I think about 16 of them) in one large office with cubicals that 4 people share.  Since everyone is in the same office though, J overhears a lot of interesting conversations.  (He doesn't hear those convos by choice, but he's a trooper, and some are just funny.)

Do you remember that baby shower that I went to a couple of weeks ago? Well, it was for one of the grad students at J's work.  So, naturally there were quite a few other {girl} grad students there too.  When one introduced the newest member of their group to me, she described my husband as "the one who only likes to talk about work at work."

And as if that isn't funny enough.  These same two girls were talking at work last week as they were walking through their office (you know, the big shared one).  As they walked by J, the same girls goes "he's the one who only likes to talk about work at work."  Of course J heard them.

I'd told J about what they said about him at the shower, and then when they said it again, it was just too funny.  I mean, they say that as if it's a bad thing.  Seriously?  That's what work is for.  Work.  But hey, if that's the reputation he has there, then that's a good thing!  He is a hard worker, and enjoys what he does!  :)

Ok, just thought it was funny what some people, or grad students, say!  :)

  1. Ha! They probably think you should be on Facebook at work, right?

  2. Ha! Yep, and they like Youtube...and just about anything else that interferes with getting actual work done!
