Scratch and Sniff

So, our sweet little cat still has her claws, really for a lot of reasons...anyway, we usually keep claw caps on them--and that works really well!  Lately though, I haven't been too adamant about putting them on her though, and it's been ok.  (Surprisingly!)  With the exception of our cute wicker trunk that she's been scratching, sniffing and, I think, eating. :(  So, since we already have cardboard scratchers, a scratching post and other toys for her, we decided to get her yet another scratcher.
Petlinks Dream Curl Curvy 2-Surface Scratcher

This one is different (and adorable!) and it just came in the mail today!  Well....she love, love, loves it!  So it's a success!  There's even a little feathery toy that hangs in the "cave" part of it.  She plays.  She scratches.  She sniffs.  It's glorious for cat play/scratch time AND she seems SO interested in it that she's just forgotten about our trunk!  Whew!  :)

Just wanted to let you know that I just added our older posts (from our previous blog) on this one.  You'll find posts dating back to our first year of marriage, and such, so I thought I would consolidate them onto here!  :)

Hope you are all doing well!!

Good news.

Hello!  :)

Anyway, we visited the same Church this week as we did last week, and I think we may have found our new Church home!  :)  Exciting huh?

We were impressed last week with the friendly people, sound doctrine and stellar preaching.  We got to meet the Pastor last week, and this morning he called us by name when we saw him!  I thought that was pretty sweet!  :)

Anyway, last week we just decided to try their service, and today we went to Sunday School in addition to the service.  They have a few Sunday School classes in our general age range, but really only one that we both fit into.  (Funny because we are 26 and I would think we'd be able to fit into a lot...cut offs are interesting tho, and no worries read on...)

I don't know about my sweetie, but I was a little overwhelmed walking into a room with 30 people this morning ranging in age from 22 to 40.  (Although, truth be told I think all of them were older than me at least.)  But they were all nice and inviting.  They are studying Revelation and the format of the class is discussion oriented and we seem to fit in just nicely.  :)  What a relief!

We made quick friends with a couple about our age (and also without kids in tow, which is becoming harder and harder to find at our ages) and we sat with them during the service.  After the service their was a Church-wide Potluck, and even though we didn't bring anything (we didn't know about it beforehand) we got to eat and have fellowship.  We spent most of the time getting to know our new found friends and had an enjoyable time.

We are so excited--and relieved--that we have hopefully, really, truly found a Church home here.  It's something that's been in our prayers since before we moved here, and it seems God revealed us this Church just at the right time!  Just as he always does with and perfect time!  :)

PS  We're not being unrealistic with this Church.  We know they aren't perfect, and no Church is, but we think that we've found a place that we can minister as well as be ministered to!  Praise the Lord!  :)

Check out this giveaway!

The foodie blog A Delicious Melody, is doing a great giveaway!  Check it out here.  You could win this:

J recently spent the last of his graduation gift cards on a new game for our Wii.  We are now the proud owners of Ride by Tony Hawk.  It's pretty sweet too.  :)

Although we haven't gotten to play it much yet, I'm sure it will be using it a lot more in the near future!  I also think it's a safe way for us to skateboard.  Well, to be honest J isn't too accident prone...but I sure am.  So...ya, I will be sticking to the virtual skateboarding.  But you really do move around quite a bit since it's a Wii game. :)

Doesn't it look fun though?!?!?!  We think so...  :)  Anyway, it's another fun little diversion and helps round out our collection of Wii games.

Cinderellie, Cinderellie . . .

Our kitty cat's name is Cinderella, but we more often call her "Cinderellie" like from Disney's Cinderella.  :)  I'm not a crazy cat lady, or anything, but I am really fond of our sweet little cat.  (So is the Rocket Scientist.)   Anyway, she's so cute and protective of our place, it's great.  And also sometimes a little scary.
Since she's an indoor cat (and we actually follow the law, unlike some people where we live) she spends her time playing with toy mice, napping, playing with ping pong balls, napping, scratching her post and napping.  Oh, she also eats when she feels like it and drinks quite a bit of water.  She lives quite the life really.  Who wouldn't want to play and nap all day long.  ;)  When she's not playing or napping, she likes to bird watch out any/all our windows and especially out the sliding door.

Sometimes when she's bird watching another cat (or other animal like a squirrel) will come along and make themselves at home on our patio.  Cinderellie doesn't like that at all.  So, her hair stands up on end, puffs her tail up and hisses lunging at the door.  Sometimes she successfully scares the other animal away.  But she always, I mean always startles me.  You'd think I would be used to it but now...but no.  Every time it practically gives me a heart attack. (Picture me jumping, and screaming at the top of my lungs...)

Anyway, it happened again just a few minutes ago.  In fact my heart it still racing from it.  I just wish that people would be responsible for their pets and follow the laws.  Then I'd have a  happy cat all the time, and no more almost heart attacks here...  Or at least if you're going to have your cat outside unattended keep them away from my place.  Please.

Ok, done ranting for now....sorry.  It's just that we have such a sweet cat, and when other cats come around she gets so upset.  It's sad.  And a little frightening.

Take me out to a playoff game! :)

One moment in time....

I suppose everyone does.  :)  Weekends are great though.  Fun things to do, not much of a schedule and lots of time with my hubster! :)

Last night we got to go to another Bulls game.  It was game #4 in the Governor's Cup Championship.  We got some great seats that we basically right behind home plate this time.  Even though the Bulls play a great game, they lost 13-2 though.  :(  Thus losing the chance for the cup, and their opponent the Columbus Clippers received the Governor's Cup right after the game ended.

The awarding of the Governor's Cup to the Columbus Clippers.  (I know they weren't who we were rooting for, but I had to take a pic because they won the cup after all.)  :)

The Durham Bulls still had another great season this year!  We were happy to be able to go to a regular season game last month and a playoff game this month too!  How fun to have a great Minor League Baseball team so close to where we live, work and play!  :)

One of the Bulls pitchers working hard.

Let's face it, we either love or hate surprises.  Most people are one or the other, or I suppose you could be like me and like some and not others.  :)

Well, today one of those great surprises came in the mail!  A check that my husband and I had both completely, I mean completely forgotten about.  It was the refund of the security/pet deposit from our last apartment.  And to make it better, they only took out $33 dollars.  Unlike most places who take most of the amount.

Plus, when we made the security deposit, instead of it just being a couple hundred dollars, it was an entire month's rent (plus the $250 pet deposit).  At that time it was a lot of money to us to have to come up with.  And now, it's still a lot of money to us!!  And it's such a blessing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  PTL!!!

Don't you just love it when it happens like that?!?!?  God's sweet little blessings in surprises.  I'll never get sick of those.  :)

Giveaways are near...

So, I just saw that A Delicious Melody is going to be doing a giveaway soon!!  Let's all keep an eye out for that!  :)

Probably TMI but it's my life. (And hopefully somewhat entertaining!)

Alright, I'll be the first to admit it's been way too long since my last post.  Ok, maybe that was a bit of an exaggeration...but still.  It has been a while.  Especially since last week I decided to start blogging faithfully everyday.  Perhaps that was too big of a goal.....

Moving right along. I hope you all had a great weekend!  We really didn't.  It wasn't a total disaster...but, just wasn't the greatest.  You see, my Rocket Scientist is working on two papers from his previous job, so he's been devoting a lot of his time at home to that anyway.  And, he found out on Saturday that his boss wants to see one of the papers as soon as possible.  I could go into many more details about it all, but I won't.  Just know that it's all been a process, as those theoretical and technical writings always are!

Then as for me, I caught some sort of horrible virus last week (apparently) and came down pretty ill on Friday afternoon/evening.  It started as a migraine and fever, which I didn't think too much of.  Then I woke up Saturday feeling like I had been *literally* run over by a bus.  Not in the cute cartoony type of way either, where they pop back up from being flattened like a pancake.

I felt:  Awful. Dreadful. Horrible. Bad. and Sick.  Aches all over, bad headache, fever that was only rising...the list went on.  So, I spent most of the day in sweats in our living room chilling out with my computer.  In hindsight, I should have just tried to sleep that day...or at least just watched lots and lots of tv and movies.  But instead I was productive and reformatted a lot of things on my computer, and rearranged most of my foodie blog.  In turn, I couldn't sleep at all that night.  I'd done too much.  Not rested enough during the day and simply just gotten more sick.  You know, that thing I was trying to avoid admitting I really was.

On a side note, did I mention I have the sweetest hubby ever?!?!?!  He basically waited on me hand and foot (where did that saying come from anyway?) and did so with a cheerful spirit.  Thank you honey! Love you! :)

Ok, so after a restless night I woke up the opposite of refreshed of course.  In fact, things had only gotten worse and it was looking like I could possibly have strep throat or something.  (My fever was at 101.5 and sore, sore throat that was red, etc...)  So my sweets toted me over to the Urgent Care down the street, where we had to wait a total of 3 hours before being seen.  Only to find out that I in fact did not have strep throat but just a virus.  Just a regular run of the mill upper respiratory infection.

So, I sadly walked out to the waiting room, and we went home.  I guess I was sad that I didn't have something that was treatable, with an actual end in sight.  I realize that probably sounds silly....but just read on and you may understand where I am coming from more....

So the rest of Sunday came and went.  Oh, and the real bummer.  I mean R.E.A.L. bummer about me being sick this weekend?!?!?  Was the fact that we were going to try another church...and couldn't.  :(   K, sorry, back to the story....Sunday night, I slept some...not great by any means, but it was more bearable I suppose.  But then I woke up at 6am to hardly any achiness but I could hardly swallow.  I forced down a couple of pretzels so I could take Tylenol and mucinex, but I think those about killed me.  To make a long story of that day short, my throat hurt SO bad that I could eat/drink was 5 Popsicles.  Yep.  Literally, that's all I had yesterday....amazingly I'm still here.  :)

Last night another super rough night...and did I mention that apparently I am unable to nap during the day now too?  Annoying... Anyway, I woke up this morning to no fever and no body aches, but the worst headache of my life and a still super painful throat.  :(  I grinned and bared it when I took the Tylenol and mucinex with a glass of water.  Then tried to eat some Jello, but even that still hurt.  So, I gave up showered and cuddled up on the couch.  Finally I decided to gargle with more warm salt water (something I have now done in the last 4 days than EVER before in my whole life) and I was feeling better.  I even ate some applesauce. :)  But, I didn't want to push my I held off on anything else for a while.  Then I just treated myself to a Popsicle and I'm still doing well.

In fact, my throat is feeling so well right now that I requested my hubby pick up Little Caesars on the way home tonight.  I'm not going to lie either.  I am SO excited for that pizza.  And hopefully some crazy bread!!  I haven't eaten for two days...and that's the longest for sure I've ever gone.  (Or hope to go)  Let's face it.  I love food.  :)

And yes, as the title states...that was probably too much info, but it truly is my life.  :)  So, hopefully I will be back blogging regularly here on out....unless of course my body takes revenge on the virus or something... ;)

Where were you?

No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, we call all agree that what happened on 9/11/01 was a tragedy. It's hard to believe it's been 9 years since our world changed forever.

I had just started my senior year of high school and J was in his junior year in college. I know we remember exactly where we were when we each found out the news. Those moments will forever be in our memories, because it really did change a lot.

That day is a day we'll never forget, and I hope we don't. So many lives were lost, on our home soil.  And thank you to those men and women tho continue to serve and protect this nation!

We live in a great nation, and should be thankful to have been born here and live here!. God Bless the USA!

Best places to live...

I find it amusing that when we lived in Northern Colorado, Fort Collins was named the best place to live in the U.S.  And now that we live in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina, Durham has just been named the best place to retire in the U.S.  I guess we pick pretty great areas to live, eh?  ;)

K that's all.  Just had to jot that down for y'all, because I think it's very interesting! :)  (And hopefully you do too.)

Have you forgotten?

Here's a tribute to what happened 9/11/01.

Have you forgotten?
I hear people sayin'. We Don't need this war.
I say there's some things worth fightin' for.
What about our freedom, and this piece of ground?
We didn't get to keep 'em by backin' down.
They say we don't realize the mess we're gettin' in
Before you start preachin' let me ask you this my friend.

Have you forgotten, how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten, when those towers fell
We had neighbors still inside goin through a livin hell
And you say we shouldn't worry bout Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

You took all the footage off my T.V.
Said it's too disturbin for you and me
It'll just breed anger is what the experts say
If it was up to me I'd show it everyday
Some say this country just out lookin' for a fight
Well after 9/11 man I'd have to say right.

Have you forgotten, how it felt that day?
To see your homeland under fire
And her people blown away
Have you forgotten when those towers fell
We had neighbors still inside goin' through a livin' hell
And we vow to get the ones behind Bin Laden
Have you forgotten?

I've been there with the soldiers
Who've gone away to war
you can bet they remember just what they're fightin' for

Have you forgotten
All the people killed
Yes some went down like heroes
In that Pennsylvania field
Have you forgotten
About our Pentagon
All the loved ones that we lost
And those left to carry on
Don't you tell me not to worry 'bout Bin Laden

Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?

Have you forgotten?!

Hair drama-rama

So, here's some drama-rama for this Friday. It all started two weeks ago, when I had gotten sick of my medium short hair. You see, I hadn't had a haircut since June 2nd, and it was in need of some help...mostly because I was trying to grow it out and it just wouldn't do anything anymore.

So, two weeks ago I got a haircut. Mostly, I just wanted a trim....30 minutes and 3 or 4 inches later I had much less hair than I had gone in with. Much shorter than I had anticipated but it seemed alright so I went on my merry way. I went home and showered immediately, because I can never stand all those little pieces of hair on my skin and clothes. I promptly fixed my hair only to find it was way shorter than I had wanted and lopsided. :( I feared going back to have it evened out because it could even be made shorter, and shorter, and well, you get the idea. So, I lived with it.

Then, last night when my sweetie and I were about to go to bed, my hair was again driving me crazy. (Truth is, that it had been for the last two weeks....) He recommended going back and getting it fixed. But I explained that it would cost another haircut and I didn't want it chopped off anymore. Eventually we decided it had to be done.

So this morning, I went to another shop and had it evened up. This girl was good and even though she took off around 2 inches most places...(of my already super short hair)...she evened up the sides and made it all look better. Now, I have hair that is WAY, WAY shorter than I'd wanted it to be cut just two short weeks ago, BUT it should grow out well (hopefully) and it's even. Oh, and also quite cute, if I don't say so myself. ;)

Ok, so I guess that wasn't up to par with my usual posts about our lives....but this is me...being real with you! :)

Come sail away....

We saw this sweet little sailboat at Falls lake on Labor day. Reminds me of the song "Come Sail away" by Styx. :)

Labor Day Weekend 2010

Well, we had quite a fantastic Labor day weekend. I do have to admit that I hoped we would, so I wouldn't think about the place that I spent every summer holiday since I was born, that I won't be able to visit much--if at all--while we are in NC instead of CO.

So, just what did we do this weekend? We went to: a football game, some beautiful gardens, a great lake and did some shopping. :) I'll post some pics from this weekend, and talk some more about what a great time we had. It was SO great to be able to spend a couple of entire days relaxing and having fun with my hubs.

Here's a pic from the football game between Duke and Elon. Duke won 41-27! It was a great game!

A beautiful tiger swallow tail butterfly (that's what I think it is) at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens. I got some really great pics of this one, because it was posing for me. So cute. :)

Anyway, these gardens are beautiful! Around 55 acres of land set aside for gardens on the Duke campus in Durham, NC. It's divided into 4 different sections of gardens with themes, and it's trails are great to walk through. It's like getting lost in a beautiful garden in the middle of a city.

Water lily at part of the Duke Gardens too. I really love the reflection.

Blue heron at the gardens. Pretty sweet eh?

I think these look like turkey ducks, and I googled around to find this about them. They are actually Muscovy Ducks. So ugly they are cute? or not? Random huh?

We had a picnic at Falls Lake State Recreation Area on Monday. The weather was perfect and we spent over 8 hours hiking, swimming, playing frisbee and picnicking! :) It was great! Don't you just love my sweet picnic basket too?? I finally got a real one! I had wanted a traditional wood picnic basket for years, and my mom found one and gave it to us for our 2 year Anniversary!! Cute huh? There's just something about the traditional ones that make me smile. :)

Falls lake is only about a half hour from where we live, and that makes us happy! It's only $6 to get in, and since we spent over 8 hours there, it was less than a dollar an hour for entertainment! That's cheap! :) Plus, we even found ourselves drawing comparisons while hiking to trails we'd been on in Colorado. So that definitely says something! We'll be back, for sure. :)

A view of Falls lake and part of one of the many swim beaches! We visited two of the 4 or 5 beaches they had. This was the first one we went to, and it was really quite busy. Then we went to the other one around 1:30pm and found it was significantly less populated, which was a nice surprise. :)

An adorable caterpillar we saw on one of our hikes yesterday. Isn't he just SOOOO cute?!?!?!?! I'm not going to lie. I wanted to pick him up and take him with us....but I refrained. :)

Anyway, we really did have a great weekend relaxing, playing, swimming, hiking and just hanging out this weekend. I'm so thankful for my sweet hubby and the time I get to spend with him.

I hope you all had a great weekend too! :)

The view from here

Well, I just realized I hadn't actually posted an update on our lives for a while. So here it is. :)

J (aka the "Rocket Scientist") is really enjoying his new job. He gets laser time, time advising/helping grad students and time learning from guest lecturers, his colleagues and his new boss. He's busy learning a lot of new things about his research and just what he'll be doing during his time here. I'm sure there's a lot more to it than I'm fact I know there is, but I won't go on with details. The important thing is that he's l.o.v.i.n.g. his new job! :)

He's also still busy at home with getting things set up/organized in his study and around the place. In addition to that he is doing some work on papers (soon to be publications) from his old job.

As for me, I'm still looking for a job. I had an interview at a local coffee shop last week that went well, but it turns out the hours would work for me. At least I had an interview though! And it went well! So that's always a good experience! :) I'm currently thinking of pursuing a dream that I have had for a while I may let you know what that is depending how that works out. :) But I am going to hold off for a while.

I'm keeping busy still organizing things around our new place, looking for jobs, working on pursuing that dream, being the resident foodie and of course playing with our sweet little kitty. Oh, I'm also looking into taking some sort of craft class around here. (Maybe cake decorating, quilting or scrapbooking....) It would give me a chance to acquire some new/additional skills and also a chance to meet some people.

We haven't found a Church home yet, but are still hopeful. Although we had a great experience at the first Church we visited here, we didn't have a great experience at the second one. In fact, we both just left disappointed and disheartened. The sermon was great, but nobody talked to us the entire time we were there. No one greeted us. No one said boo. Weird...and no wonder non-Christians don't like going to Church. Anyway, we are visiting a different Church this weekend and we are hoping for a better experience. :)

So, overall things are going really well here! We have had our North Carolina Driver's Licenses for a couple weeks and will be getting the plates for the Jeep soon. J's enjoying his job and I'm keeping busy. Our kitty loves the bigger place to run around and play. And NC's climate isn't as bad as we thought it'd be. In fact, for the most part we are getting used to it. (Although the air quality has been bad for the last three days (so that's not good at all for my asthma) hopefully it won't always be that way!) We're looking forward to the long weekend, and hope you are all doing well! :)
